Policies, Strategies, or Initiatives

Governments Responds with Policies, Strategies, and Initiatives.

There are two main policies/strategies/initiatives that come to mind when thinking about the MS-13. One policy was a crime unit, and the other froze of their wallets.
In 2013, the US Treasury labeled MS-13 leaders into the Economic Sanctioned List. This means that is it now federally prohibited for a citizen, or a business in the US to perform any type of business with these individuals. This was not only a smart, but a key move on the US Treasuries part. Freezing the assets of these 6 major gang bosses both stalls, and impacts their gang. Without assets, they cannot buy many things that would seem necessary. Their financial networks would throw their whole operation off. Without proper funding, you cannot smuggle weapons, or continue an empire of drug trafficking. It also protects businesses and citizens in the US that would be exposed to such violent business. It acts as both a sword, and a shield for the United States government.
Since the crimes perpetrated by MS-13 began to spread nationally, local authorities needed a specific task force to deal with MS-13 related situations. This was then put into action, when the MS-13 National Gang Task Force was implemented in 2004 by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). This task force was specifically designed to counteract the crimes being performed by MS-13. Its main objective is to collect intelligence, and using that intelligence to conduct investigations both nationally, and intentionally in order to maximize the amount of gang activity that is put to an end. They also assist local law enforcement on how to both identify a member of MS-13, and also the intelligence that they have gathered in order for as many authorities to know what they are up against at any point in time, when confronting a member of MS-13.
